Please note: When we state “No Additives”, we truly mean it. Due to the fact that hardwoods and exotic smoking woods are difficult to pelletize, we’ve spent countless hours perfecting its pelletizing process. Other manufacturers choose to take an easier approach – the use of oils and other additives to increase production and add profit. In fact, you can often detect a sour odor emanating from our competitors bags. In most instances this odor is borne from pellets that have been treated with plant-based oils in order to aid in the production of the pellets. In the pelleting process, tremendous heat is generated and this essentially “cooks” the oil. After some time, the oil spoils and becomes rancid. This is the reason for the foul smell. Besides increased production, there may be some other benefit to the addition of oil and that would be possibly higher heat value in the pellet. However, we choose to let the naturally occurring heat value of the wood do the work. It’s our belief that natural, no-additive pellets will result in the best tasting, safest grilling experience.
