 Product Description

Hungry Flats East of Lucia, historical novel by local writer Joseph Botts

Despite being hidden in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, this unique little community has had surprising connections with the outside world. Though the population is only 279 people, notables like Father Sera, De Anza, Fremont, Hearst, Eisenhower, Rommel, and Steinbeck are just a few of those who passed this way on their way to fame. Now known as Lockwood Valley, it is still sleeping--East of Lucia.

Starting as a boy on a large family ranch during World War II, Joseph Botts worked most of his life to save the family heritage. In trying to raise the needed capital, he leased, managed, and controlled several hundred thousand acres of farming and rangeland and worked with hundreds of horses and thousands of cattle. The Author tells of his own experiences, as well as the history of "Hungry Flats" which is now called Lockwood, California. "East of Lucia" further describes the location, and hints at an underlying problem that leads to tragic consequences.

Other available novels by Joseph Botts: The Pleyto Hills, and The Sherrif of San Lucas
